These fixture stems/lamp pipe are very useful in making lamp arms for industrial and mid-century modern style lamps and fixtures. The 1/8 IP male thread is cut straight with no taper so that the threading “disappears” into the lamp body or cluster into which it is inserted, allowing you to make a neat, seamless connection with no exposed threading.
